Messengers of the Lord Part 1

Messengers of the Lord

Pastor Anthony Trezza

Hebrews 1:1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.

Hebrews 1:3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power…

Hebrews 1:3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Hebrews 1:4 having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

Angels Are Messengers:

Hebrews 1:5 For to which of the angels did He ever say, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU"? And again, "I WILL BE A FATHER TO HIM AND HE SHALL BE A SON TO ME"? 6 And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says, "AND LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIM." 7 And of the angels He says, "WHO MAKES HIS ANGELS WINDS, AND HIS MINISTERS A FLAME OF FIRE."

  • In Both the Greek and the Hebrew languages, Angel means messengers.
  • Throughout the word of God the words we translate as Angels have also been used to refer to mere men.
  • Under the Old Covenant when the word Angel was applied to men, it was simply referring to them as a messenger, nothing more.

In the New Covenant the Reference to Angels Changes Drastically:

  • There are Angels who are supernatural beings with supernatural powers
  • There are also angels who are natural beings with supernatural power.
  • As is stated here in Hebrews, whether they are natural men or supernatural beings they are ministers od fire led by the Spirit of God.
  • As we will see in a moment the word Angel refers to both heavenly beings and Pastors placed over churches by Jesus.

Hebrews 1:8 But of the Son [He says,] "YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER, AND THE RIGHTEOUS SCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM. "YOU HAVE LOVED RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HATED LAWLESSNESS; THEREFORE GOD, YOUR GOD, HAS ANOINTED YOU WITH THE OIL OF GLADNESS ABOVE YOUR COMPANIONS." 10 And, "YOU, LORD, IN THE BEGINNING LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH, AND THE HEAVENS ARE THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS; 11 THEY WILL PERISH, BUT YOU REMAIN; AND THEY ALL WILL BECOME OLD LIKE A GARMENT, 12 AND LIKE A MANTLE YOU WILL ROLL THEM UP; LIKE A GARMENT THEY WILL ALSO BE CHANGED. BUT YOU ARE THE SAME, AND YOUR YEARS WILL NOT COME TO AN END."

Hebrews 1:13 But to which of the angels has He ever said, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET"?

  • This power and this honor belongs to no one but Jesus.

Hebrews 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?

  • Both natural Angels and Supernatural Angels are purposed by God to render service to those who will inherit salvation

Revelation 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like [the sound] of a trumpet, 11 saying, "Write in a book what you see, and send [it] to the seven churches: to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea."

You Do Not Want to Miss This:

Revelation 2:1 "To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: The One who holds the seven stars in His right hand, the One who walks among the seven golden lampstands, says this:

Revelation 2:8 "And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: The first and the last, who was dead, and has come to life, says this:

Revelation 2:12 "And to the angel of the church in Pergamum write: The One who has the sharp two-edged sword says this:

Revelation 2:18 "And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze, says this:

Revelation 3:1 "To the angel of the church in Sardis write: He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars, says this:…

Revelation 3:7 "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: He who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says this:

Revelation 3:14 "To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this:

  • In each and every case, to each and every church, the One who sent the message was the Lord Jesus
  • In each and every case, to each and every church, the one who received the message and relayed it to the church , was the Angel of that church.
  • I believe the Angel represents both the Pastor, and the Angel who is assigned to that church.
  • That is because Angels are messengers, and that pertains to both supernatural and natural beings.

Now, Here is Where it Becomes Very Interesting:

John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have [it] abundantly.

  • This is not speaking of the devil, it never did
  • This was a huge misinterpretation by man that this scripture has become known throughout the church as referring to the devil.
  • It does not
  • It never did
  • It is referring to Church leaders, mainly Pastors, who came into the office of pastor without being called by Jesus.

Hebrews 1:1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son,…

Matthew 7:15 "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing,…

Jeremiah 9:3 NLT - "My people bend their tongues like bows to shoot out lies. They refuse to stand up for the truth. They only go from bad to worse. They do not know me," says the LORD. 4 "Beware of your neighbor! Don't even trust your brother! For brother takes advantage of brother, and friend slanders friend. 5 They all fool and defraud each other; no one tells the truth. With practiced tongues they tell lies; they wear themselves out with all their sinning. 6 They pile lie upon lie and utterly refuse to acknowledge me," says the LORD.

Therefore, this is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies says: "See, I will melt them down in a crucible and test them like metal. What else can I do with my people? 8 For their tongues shoot lies like poisoned arrows. They speak friendly words to their neighbors while scheming in their heart to kill them.

John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;…

Jesus Defines Who the Thief Is In the First verse of this Chapter:

  • Chapter 10 is a continuation of the account of the blind man Jesus healed which begins in chapter 9
  • Jesus is speaking directly to the Jewish leaders about church leaders

John 10:1 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber.

John 10:2 "But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep.

John 10:7 So Jesus said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

John 10:1 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief…

John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have [it] abundantly.

John 10:11 "I am the good shepherd;…

  • The Good Shepherd is Jesus, and he who comes through Jesus.
  • For only he who comes through Jesus has the authority to speak in Jesus name
  • Being therefore the messenger or angel , that comes through Jesus and therefore delivers the message that comes from Jesus…

Pulpits are Filled with Hirelings and Thieves who deliver sermons, but who do not deliver the message of the Lord to the Churches:

John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
